Metallica delivered a thunderous show at Virginia Tech’s Lane Stadium on May 7—and left a seismic mark while doing it.
The concert was already a special event for Hokies fans. Since 2000, Virginia Tech’s football team has taken the field to the iconic sound of “Enter Sandman.” Last night, the band finally brought the song to the stadium in person, capping off their 16-song set with the legendary track.
And when they did, the crowd’s reaction was massive.
As thousands of fans jumped in unison, the energy was so intense it triggered a reading on the Virginia Tech seismograph. The tremors registered as a small earthquake, marking a true metal moment in Blacksburg history.
Before launching into “Enter Sandman,” James Hetfield fired up the crowd with a chant of “Let’s go, Hokies!”—a fitting tribute to the university and its fans.
