Kane’s Title Drought Ends
After years of falling short in finals and title races with Tottenham, Bayern Munich, and England, the 31-year-old striker has now claimed the Bundesliga title. The victory ends what many fans had called a “curse” — a career filled with goals but no trophies.
Freiburg Helps Bayern Secure the Title
Bayern Munich secured the championship not on the pitch, but through results elsewhere. On Sunday, Freiburg drew 2-2 with Bayer Leverkusen, who were in second place. That result left Bayern eight points clear at the top, with only two rounds remaining.
Leverkusen’s chances were slim even before kickoff. Bayern had a significantly better goal difference, and Leverkusen played without urgency, already knowing second place was locked in.
Celebration Comes Early After Last-Minute Setback
Kane nearly celebrated one day earlier. On Saturday, Bayern were minutes away from victory against Leipzig. But a last-gasp equalizer by Yussuf Poulsen ended the game in a 3-3 draw, postponing the celebrations. Teammate Thomas Müller posted on Instagram afterward:
“Next week, Harry!”
In the end, they didn’t need to wait that long.
A Joyful Night in Munich
As news of the title win spread, Kane and his teammates gathered at a restaurant in Munich. The mood was electric. Kane sang “We Are the Champions”, and he and Joshua Kimmich were drenched in beer and champagne as the squad belted out Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds.”
This is Bayern’s 34th German championship and the first since their inaugural title win in 1932, before the Bundesliga was formed in 1963.
Emotional Farewell Ahead for Müller
Bayern will officially lift the trophy next weekend at home against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The match will also serve as a farewell for club legend Thomas Müller, who is expected to leave the club after 25 years and 13 Bundesliga titles.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann paid tribute, saying:
“He’s going as a legend.”
Champions League Race Still Tight
While Bayern celebrates, the race for Champions League spots is heating up. Freiburg’s draw keeps them fourth — the final qualification spot — but only by one point over Borussia Dortmund and two over Leipzig.
- Eintracht Frankfurt, in third, held a four-point lead over Freiburg after drawing 1-1 with Mainz.
- Only the top four teams will qualify for Europe’s elite club competition.
Relegation Battle Remains Fierce
Meanwhile, Holstein Kiel earned a crucial 3-1 win at Augsburg, helping them climb within one point of Heidenheim, who currently sit in the relegation playoff position.
Kiel’s next matches? A tough schedule against Freiburg and Dortmund.
