Musk Pushes Back Against Sweeping Budget Law

Elon Musk has announced the creation of a new political movement, the American Party, after strongly opposing the passage of a controversial budget law. The legislation, supported by President Donald Trump, eliminates most federal climate and clean energy programs.

Musk, whose businesses depend on renewable energy and electric vehicles, warned that the law would cause severe economic damage. He predicted job losses and negative long-term effects. Trump responded aggressively, threatening to deport Musk back to South Africa and destroy his businesses.

Despite the backlash, the law passed. In response, Musk turned to X (formerly Twitter), asking his followers if they wanted to create a new party. Over 1.2 million people voted, with nearly two-thirds supporting the idea.

The Birth of the American Party

Musk timed the poll to Independence Day, highlighting the desire for freedom from the current two-party system.
“Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system! Should we create the America Party?” he wrote.

Encouraged by the results, Musk officially launched the American Party.
“By a ratio of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! We live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” he declared.

A Strategy Inspired by History

Musk shared how he plans to challenge the traditional political structure. He cited the Battle of Leuctra from 371 BC, where Theban general Epaminondas defeated the Spartans by focusing his strongest forces on one flank.

“We will break the uniparty system using a modern version of Epaminondas’ strategy: concentrated force at a precise location,” Musk explained.

Political Ambitions for 2026

Musk plans to take part in the 2026 midterm elections, signaling his serious political ambitions. He first mentioned the idea of creating a party back in 2022 but dismissed it at the time as unrealistic. Now, he believes the time is right.

With his vast wealth, public influence, and persistence, Musk is positioned to make the American Party a significant player. His next challenge will be turning this bold vision into reality.
