Norman, Okla. — May 15, 2025
The Texas Longhorns are Southeastern Conference champions — and they did it in style. On Thursday night, Texas beat Oklahoma 7-4 at L. Dale Mitchell Park to secure a share of the SEC title in their first year in the league.
The hero of the night was Max Belyeu. After missing 26 games with a thumb injury, he returned to the lineup and delivered a game-winning three-run homer in the ninth inning. Despite going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts earlier, he crushed the first pitch he saw in the final frame over center field.
Texas Rallies Late for the Win
Oklahoma led early, scoring in the first, third, and fifth innings. Texas trailed 3-1 entering the seventh, but they tied the game with a two-run single from Tommy Farmer IV. In the eighth, Kimble Schuessler gave Texas a 4-3 lead with an RBI single.
However, Oklahoma quickly responded. They tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the eighth off Texas closer Dylan Volantis. That set the stage for a dramatic ninth inning.
Farmer led off with a double. Then Ethan Mendoza followed with a single. After that, Belyeu stepped up and delivered the clutch home run. It was his first since March 28.
In the bottom of the ninth, Volantis shut the door. He struck out two batters and earned his 13th save of the season.
